The recent onslaught on my backlog continues, with great progress on my Citadel AD&D collection. Shriekers are FUN to paint! I may need to get more :).
It is amazing how much you can achieve with a little focus and setting aside the need to be perfect in favour for 'good enough'.
Three very nearly finished figures drying off. Just little details and a little edging to go.
The first is a Satyr from the Citadel Advanced Dungeons & Dragons series. I find satyrs in greek myth boring- so made mine a form of forrest Fae. It's funny how a paint job can turn a least liked figure to a fave.
Next up is The Inquisitor from The Talisman series, a true favourite of mine. I painted one of these back in the eighties and it was the first I painted that managed to impress my friends. Ain't that right Mr. Passingham?
This time around I varies the solid red with a cluxish white mask, which makes him scarier.
Finally is The Gypsy from the same release. Again, I stayed away from the solid blue dress in the paint job in the advert, mainly because gypsy skirts and blouses are usually separate (pfff, girl brain, you know). A touch of turquoise hints at magical powers. Coz magic is turquoise... K?
Gooosh, you're in machine mode ! Of all the Talisman gipsy is my favourite by far. The sculpt is a kliller but you're pianting (even through a poor photo just too good.
ReplyDeleteSplendid.
Thanks- and lucky me just found a double of her in my strip jar queue. I get to do her a sister!
DeleteWish I had one, I could totally do her sister... I mean erm, well you know what I mean.
DeleteLooking at your collection I'm wondering with what I coudl bribe you into trading her.
Good question! I should post a wanted page.
DeleteI need lots of citadel actually- a few of the DnD starter box to complete that, a couple of the monster starter set, villagers and a few of the talisman for starters.
Your work rate makes me want to cry - lol. I'm sitting here feeling tired and unenthusiastic but trying to force myself to paint. I'll have whatever you're on!
ReplyDeleteThat Talisman gypsy looks great. Love the colour of the skirt and the face is really nicely done.
Estrogen and Progesterone. It probably won't have the same effect though.
DeleteBut seriously I think I just found the magic again. Not sure how, but I think it has something to do with stepping back to my golden era.
DeleteThere is also the feeling of empancipation from the weight of having so many unfinished things.
Seriously, I based and base coated a LOTR Bjorn and it felt like a tonne off my shoulders. That little fucker has been hovering around my collection in just a grey undercoat forever... And I got him in a job lot... So I didn't even want him.
I've got an almost finished Bretonnian musician sitting on my desk. It's been there for 6 months perhaps. I need to add some freehand heraldry and it's just become a bugbear of a thing now. I'm sure I'll get around to it sometime this year but after a day of painting for other people I usually find it hard to build up the desire to do anything for myself. Just need to wait for that periodic spark of enthusiasm I guess.
DeleteMaybe if you force yourself to do ten minutes on him at the start of each session you can get him done. The rest of your painting enthusiasm may get a kick from it.
DeleteNice work D. Superb speed and a very decent outcome.
ReplyDeleteNice :)
ReplyDeletenice to see by past few blogposts that you are getting back on with things =)
ReplyDeletelooking forward to seeing what other goodies emerge from the jars.
Yep gypsy looks cool, hmmm the gypsy twins sounds like a scenario for an RPG.
ReplyDeleteVery nice figures - the Inquisitor is superb!
ReplyDeleteThat inquisitor brings back memories indeed, and although I'm pretty sure I was in awe of all your 80s efforts, that guy (and a couple of Nurgle champions) have really stuck in the mind.
ReplyDeleteThe Gypsy is my favourite of the three here - its a lovely sculpt. Those old Talisman models are brimming with character.
Oh yes! The nurgle champions where my high point at that time aaaaaaand I just bought new copies of those! Very excitementage!
